Project Manager - Portfolio Governance Specialist

Fortune 100 company in New York City has an immediate need for a Project Manager. The primary responsibility for this role is governance. He/she will be responsible for multiple governance forums including scheduling, communications, gathering, reviewing, consolidating, and distributing governance materials. Documents governance meetings’ summaries and manages follow-ups. Candidates should have a passionate sense of ownership and ensures all deadlines are met with high quality in accordance with the governance calendar for each governance forum.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages all inputs from governance delegates and ensures portfolio management system is current and accurate
  • Key contributor in moving forward the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and agile adoption within the business unit and in partnership with the other business units and IT.
  • Change Management expertise, specifically, in moving from Waterfall to Agile and/or SAFe
  • Works across business and IT teams to ensure portfolio prioritization and execution according to highest business priorities
  • Responsible for providing project management facilitation by partnering with cross-functional core teams to ensure all deliverables are produced on time and with quality results.
  • Responsible for partnering with the Team on the delivery of multiple strategic initiatives using SDLC (Waterfall) and Agile/Lean methodologies.
  • Drives the implementation of PMO capabilities by facilitating the use of standard project management tools and processes.
  • Manages and collaborates with the project core teams and key stakeholders in detecting and documenting possible risks and issues; all changes to scope and/or schedule; mitigates/escalates as needed to resolve and achieve commitments from all key stakeholders.
  • Ensures status is pro-actively communicated to all key stakeholders via daily stand-ups, project meeting minutes and weekly project status reports that reflect the status of assigned projects and ensures project information is regularly shared, reviewed and discussed with all project core team members and key stakeholders.
  • Supports and manages any ad-hoc project requests, as required.

 

Required Experience

  • Experienced in portfolio management/governance
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Project Management within the Insurance/Finance Industry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Project Management professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification or Safe certification preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking and ability to exercise prudent judgment.
  • Knowledge of Agile tools such as JIRA, TFS or Rally preferred.
  • Experience in owning project/portfolio governance processes including: process creation, portfolio governance calendar planning/management, and execution
  • Change Management Experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adept at managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extremely flexible and adaptable in responding to changing priorities.
  • Strong team player who can work across organizations and teams to produce high quality project management and governance outcomes.
